First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera has called on women and girls across the country to unite in the fight against cyber threats.
She made the remarks during the official opening of the Women and Girls in Cyber 2024 Annual Conference in Lilongwe.
Madam Chakwera said while the digital world offers numerous opportunities, it also presents significant challenges, as evidenced by the rise in cyber crime. She also stressed the importance of women and girls acquiring knowledge and skills necessary to combat these threats.
“When women thrive in cyber security, we all benefit from a safer, more inclusive digital landscape,” said Madam Chakwera.
Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu echoed her sentiments, acknowledging the specific cyber threats that women and girls face.
Kunkuyu said the Ministry is working on policies and interventions to ensure a safer cyber space for all Malawians.
Bridget Chibwana, Board Chairperson of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), highlighted that the three-day conference will provide a supportive and inclusive environment for women and girls to explore the various opportunities available in the cyber space.
