Truck kills five children

Five children have died after being hit by a truck at Chowe Village along the Mangochi-Namwera road in Mangochi.

Spokesperson for Eastern Region Police, Patrick Mussa, says
the 15 tonner ERF truck, loaded with 350 bags of maize flour, was coming from the direction of Namwera heading to Mangochi.

Upon arrival at the said village, while descending Chowe Hill, it is alleged that the vehicle developed brake failure and swerved to the extreme offside of the road where it hit the children before it overturned.

The five sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures and were rushed to the hospital where they were all pronounced dead upon arrival.
