Transforming Agriculture through Diversification and Entrepreneurship Programme (TRADE) has urged those in dairy and livestock farming to adopt sustainable animal husbandry practices that minimise environmental degradation.
According to the programme’s Commodity Specialist for Livestock, Emmanuel Mponya, sustainable agriculture is vital for maximising gains from beef and dairy farming.
Susan Malunga from the Department of Agricultural Research in the Ministry of Agriculture said there is a need for sector players to stay updated on modern livestock management techniques.
In collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization, the programme is training animal health experts, environmental specialists, and academics on the use of the Global Livestock Environmental Assessment Model.
