Chitipa registers more cholera cases

Ifumbo Health Centre in Senior Chief Mwabulambya in Chitipa District is the latest health facility to register two more cases of cholera, bringing the total number of cases to 27, cumulatively.

Chitipa Health Office spokesperson, Masida Nyirongo, has called for urgent support to help the district prevent further spread of the outbreak.

He also confirmed that five more suspected cases have been admitted, awaiting results from rapid tests.

Clement Gonthi, Chitipa District Council’s Diector of Adminstration, said the council has implemented preventive measures such as a ban on preparing and serving of food at public gatherings like funerals, church, and weddings.

“The district council has prohibited the sale of already prepared food to help prevent further spread of the disease,” he said.
