Malawi has realised $53.7 million (about K94 billion) from three weeks of tobacco sales, an increase from the $28.3 million (K49.5 billion) generated during the same period last year, figures from AHL tobacco sales show.
The foreign exchange has been generated after farmers traded 203,311 bales of the leaf weighing 20.1 million kilogrammes.
According to the figures, the average price in the three weeks is at $2.67 (K4,675).
Tobacco remains Malawi’s main foreign exchange earner.
