Timely payment of CSE-PWP wages thrills participants

Participants of the Climate-Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme (CSE-PWP) in Nkhata Bay have commended the council for promptly paying their wages, saying the gesture will enable them to execute their plans efficiently.

In an interview Friday at Lifutazi catchment, Enala Kasambala, 58 from Kachibwana village in the area of Senior Chief Mankhambira said the timely payment has motivated her to work hard in the next phase ahead.

“Unlike other phases where we could wait for even a month without getting our wages this time aroud we have got them barely a week after working.This is a motivation to us and will boost productivity and our investments.

James Mphande, 21, another participant from Mpamba catchment said the timely payment will help him to immediately execute his plan of starting a business of seling fish hence improved support to his family.

Nkhata Bay District Commissioner Rodgers Newa attributed the successful timely payment of wages to the new approach of continuous arrangement implementation of the program where participants are now working for 30 days without interruption and receive K48,000.00.

The CS-EPWP is a major component of the Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods Project (SSRLP) which was established to promote rehabilitation of degraded micro-watersheds and restore natural resources being implemented across the country through the National Local Government Finance with support from Multi-Donor Trust Fund and World.
