Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda has urged the newly-installed Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Justice Annabel Ntalimanja and new commissioners Limbikani Kamlongera and Phillip Kambulire to serve the country with the highest degree of integrity, transparency and accountability.
He was speaking at the High Court in Lilongwe on Friday morning during the swearing-in ceremony of the three, who have been appointed by President Dr Lazarus Chakwera.
“The commission you have joined has served with distinction….I hope you will bring added knowledge and expertise…you should take the oaths seriously…The mandate of MEC is constitutionally defined, its is legally defined…as your starting point, pay particular attention to your mandate as spelt out in the constitution,” he said.
He further pointed out that elections need to be managed with the highest degree of confidence and impartiality hence fairness and justice are essential ingredients.
“…commit yourselves to working together for the advancement of democracy and the will of the people of Malawi,” he emphasized.
