Social and political analysts are describing the absence of Democratic Progressive Party’s President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika during the end of the party’s convention as a wakeup call to seriously consider on his capability to provide leadership for the party.
APM was scheduled to close the convention but instead delegated George Chaponda who delivered a statement on his behalf.
Blantyre based political and social commentator, Chimwemwe Tsitsi, is of the view that Mutharika’s absence should be a cause for worry for the DPP as it gears for next year’s elections considering his age.
Political and governance commentator, Moses Mkandawire, says Mutharika was supposed to attend the closing ceremony as respect of delegates who travelled far and wide to be at the indaba.
