Stakeholders bang heads over delayed tobacco proceeds payment

Tobacco Commission (TC) says discussions among stakeholders in the tobacco marketing value chain are underway to iron out bottlenecks in tobacco proceeds payment.

This follows a temporary closure of Lilongwe Auction Floors at Kanengo today where farmers are demanding an immediate solution to the problem.

TC spokesperson, Telephorus Chigwenembe, has attributed the delayed payments to communication breakdown among relevant stakeholders.

Chigwenembe has since assured farmers that growers who have sold the leaf will soon have their earnings.

He adds that the Tobacco Commission, AHL and other stakeholders have already initiated the process to address the matter.
