Centre for Agricultural Transformation (CAT) has commended Synthesis Agriculture for promoting smart farming amid the effects of climate change.
Executive Director for CAT, Macleod Nkhoma, made the commendation during the handover of the Makoka Drip Irrigation system to the Makoka Research Station in Zomba.
Manager for Bvumbwe Research Station in Thyolo, Isaac Fandika, was the guest of honour during the handover ceremony.
“Among others, the K60 million irrigation system will assist in crop research as well as training farmers on crop diversification,” Fandika said.
Project engineer for Synthesis Agriculture, Karorama Masangwi, said they have constructed the system to impact on farming technology.
“The life span for the system is over five years, hence contributing much to crop research,” Masangwi lamented.
The irrigation system, which covers one hectare, has a 10,000 litre storage tank, demarcated into ten plots, solar solar-powered submersible pump, among others.
