Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) expects an improvement in beneficiary targeting across the country following the orientation of district disaster structures in preparation for the 2024-2025 lean season food insecurity response launch.
Deputy Director for Disaster Response in the Department of Disaster Management Affairs, Fyawupi Mwafongo, said this on Tuesday in Chitipa during the closing of a two-day District Council Disaster Risk Management Committee and Area Disaster Risk Management Committees.
The drill covered modules on beneficiary targeting, registration, verification, distribution planning and management, grievance redress mechanisms and reporting.
District Commissioner for Chitipa, MacMillan Magomero , thanked Area and Village Disaster Risk Management Committees for playing a critical role in disaster risk management.
One of the participants, Sangwani Kapira, Area Disaster Risk Management Committee Chairperson for Wenya, said the orientation has been an eye-opener.
Kapira said that she would brief her committee members on what they have learnt so that all members can be on the same page.
She says she is hopeful that as the country starts the lean season, the food insecurity response for 2024-2025 will be a success.
