Salima District Council believes sustained awareness on the benefits of adopting the use of clean energy solutions like gas and modern stoves for cooking and heating would greatly accelerate Malawi’s efforts in preserving the environment.
Acting Director of Environment and Natural Resources for the Council, Adam Jason, made the remarks during an Open Day in the area of Group Village Headman Kantchenembwe, Traditional Authority Kalonga in the district.
The event is part of a popular mobilisation campaign by MBC’s Development Broadcasting Unit (DBU) on Access to Clean Energy, an initiative under the Promoting Equitable Access to Clean Energy (PEACE) Project.
In the project, DBU is mobilising communities in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Salima districts to host Open Days, where proceedings are being recorded for broadcast to nationally sensitise the public to adopt the use of clean energy solutions for cooking and heating.
DBU and an Oxfam-led consortium comprising the Civil Society Network on Climate Change (CISONECC) and the Centre for Environmental Policy and Advocacy (CEPA) are implementing the twin projects with funding from the European Union (EU).
