The Malawi Red Cross Society says it has set aside K240 million for food insecure households in Mzimba District.
Under the Hunger Crisis Support Project,1500 households in Mzimba will receive K50,000 each from April to June this year.
Speaking during the launch of the exercise at Emfeni Primary School Ground in the area of Traditional Authority Mabilabo in Mzimba, Emergency Operation Coordinator at Red Cross, Louis Solomon, said their aim is to support the government in alleviating challenges people are facing in the country following the MVAC report which indicated that 4.4 million households will be food insecure this year.
Apart from the funds, Red Cross is also supporting 500 households among the 1500 with agriculture inputs, vegetables seeds and sweet potato vines to help them with winter cropping.
