Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing voter registration exercise taking place in various parts of the country.
MEC Chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, said this in Dedza on Thursday after visiting some registration centres.
“For example, at Uswe Centre, we witnessed a large number of registrants, which shows that people are eager to get registered. We have managed to deploy additional staff to support the process. Although we have encountered a few challenges,” Mtalimanja said.
Principal Secretary for the National Registration Bureau, Mphatso Sambo, confirmed that they have not encountered any significant equipment failures.
The exercise is part of the preparations for Malawi’s upcoming General Elections next year.
