Police nabs ‘King of Street Kids’

Lilongwe Police have arrested a renowned street-connected children’s kingpin, Shadreck Chimpeni, who is suspected to be a dangerous criminal responsible for attacking and robbing passers-by at Lilongwe Bridge.

Spokesperson for the Police, Hastings Chigalu, says Chimpeni had been on the run for at least a month after being listed as one of the most wanted suspects.

His recent crime was when he brandished a knife and robbed two University of Malawi students of a cellphone valued at K700, 000 at Wullian shop near Lilongwe Bridge.

Chigalu said Police arrested the suspect with the help of community policing members within the Central Business District, who traced him at his hiding place on Tuesday.

He will be taken to court soon to face robbery charges.

Chimpeni hails from Kampepuza Village, Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu District.
