Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Region, Gladson Chipumphula has said construction of new police houses will enhance responsiveness and service delivery of police officers.
Speaking on Wednesday during a media tour organised to showcase developments being implemented across the country, Chipumphula said many police officers are living in rented houses far from their duty stations, something he said affects mobilisation in times of emergency.
“We are very happy with the implementation of the housing project. Honestly, the new houses have restored our dignity and are a very big motivation to us,” said Chipumphula.
Chipumphula hailed government for its commitment to improving the welfare of police officers and ensuring the timely completion of the houses.
“The houses in Zomba are almost done,” said Chipumphula.
The police housing project is one of the key initiatives that government is implementing, with a total of 10,000 houses earmarked for the first phase.
