Parliamentary Committee on Social and Community Affairs has expressed satisfaction with FDH Financial Holdings’ corporate social responsibility activities being implemented in the country.
Savel Kafwafwa, the Chairperson of the Committee, said this during a tour of projects that the company is doing in the districts of Blantyre, Chiradzulu, and Thyolo.
FDH Holdings has built nine houses to ease the suffering of people of Ntauchira in Chiradzulu who are yet to rise up from the Cyclone Freddy tragedy, who until now, were destitute and mostly surviving on humanitarian aid.
Kafwafwa urged other players in the private sector to emulate the gesture to assist vulnerable members of the society.
Chief Executive Officer for FDH Financial Holdings, William Mpinganjira, said the company was concerned with the situation of the cyclone’s survivors were in, hence the decision to build the houses.
District Commissioner for Chiradzulu, Francis Matewere, said FDH Holdings’ house construction is a great relief to the cyclone survivors who, after they lost everything, are now living in dignified homes built by the company.
The committee also visited the cancer patients’ ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre and a children’s ward at Malamulo Hospital in Thyolo, which were also constructed by FDH.
For the past five years, FDH Holdings has spent approximately K6 billion towards corporate social responsibility initiatives.
