Gender Ministry highlights importance of reporting on social protection programmes

The Ministry of Gender has stressed the importance of journalists’ participation in reporting on issues related to social protection programmes.

Chief Social Welfare Officer from the Ministry, Chifundo Nanchukwa, was speaking this in Lilongwe on Tuesday during the orientation of reporters and editors on social protection programs.

Nanchukwa said raising awareness is essential to help people access information that will contribute to reducing poverty in the country.

Economist from the Ministry of Finance, Elisha Limbe, reviewed that approximately 10% of the population in the country falls under the ultra-poor and incapacitated category, highlighting the need for support to improve their living standards.

Representatives from UNICEF, the Ministry of Finance, and journalists from various media organisations are participating in the workshop.
