Parliament happy with progress on Likoma jetty construction

Chairperson for the Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Public Infrastructure, Enock Phale, says the committee is impressed with the progress made on the jetty construction in Likoma District.

Phale made the remarks on Tuesday when the committee visited the Island to assess the progress of the construction.

“We are happy with the level of interest that the current leadership has put in making sure that this construction is completed and put into use,” said Phale.

The jetty will ease mobility challenges once it has been completed.

Principle Secretary for Administration in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, Madalo Nyambosi, said the project has faced many challenges that have delayed its completion.

“This was supposed to be an 18-month project, so we have shared with the committee the challenges that have delayed this initiative and they have promised to help us get the resources,” said Nyambosi.
