NICE orients Karonga CSOs on new electoral laws

With a year and some months before Malawians vote in the General Election on September 16, 2025, the National Initative for Civic Education (NICE) is orienting Karonga-based Civil Society Organisations on the new electoral laws.

According to NICE’s Civic Education Officer for Karonga, Mabvuto Mkandawire, most stakeholders are not fully aware of the new electoral laws, especially the change of polling hours.

“During the recent local governement by elections in Karonga, alot of voters were turned back since they were not aware that polling now starts from 6am to 4pm, not 6am to 6pm as it was in the past,” said Mkandawire.

The CSOs are also being oriented on the new gazzetted ward and constituency boundaries, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) calendar for the 2025 general election as well as the Political Parties Act of 2018.

According to Mkandawire, Karonga based CSOs should help in increasing awareness of the new electoral laws inorder to improve voter turn out on polling day next year.
