Non-state actors have been called upon to collaborate with the government in advancing initiatives that are aimed at eradicating hunger in the country through various food security interventions.
Programmes Manager for Small Producers Development and Transporters Association (SPRODETA), Anna Chikoko, made the appeal during the organisation’s review meeting in Mzuzu.
Chikoko stressed that food security in the country cannot be sustained by the government alone and highlighted the need for collective action from various stakeholders to ensure long-term solutions.
She added that her organisation is actively working with farmers by providing seeds and promoting new farming technologies that are resilient to climate-related shocks, ultimately leading to higher crop production.
SPRODETA has successfully reached 20,000 farmers across five districts namely; Karonga, Chitipa, Rumphi, Mzimba, and Nsanje distributing a variety of seeds to support agricultural productivity.
