Local NGO, Water Wells For Africa (WWFA), has drilled about 500 boreholes in some districts of the Southern Region of the country.
Speaking at Atsekaatamva Village in Chikwawa, WWFA’s President, Kurt Dahlin, said since the introduction of the initiative in 1996, the organisation has reached out to a lot of households with clean and potable water.
According to Dahlin, the organisation believes that provision of clean and potable water is essential in the development of every area and the country at large.
Village Headman Atsekaatamva said this is the first ever borehole in the area as they used to fetch drinking water from Likhubula river in the past.
Primary Education Advisor for Chikonde Zone, Yolam Nonde, said the drilling of a borehole at Nsalamba Primary School in the area has increased the enrolment of learners at the facility.
WWFA is operating in Chikwawa, Thyolo, Machinga, Mangochi, Blantyre and Phalombe. Its core purpose is drilling boreholes in hard to to reach areas.
