‘Government is trying to restore, protect natural resources’

Representative of the Principal Secretary for Agriculture in the Ministry of Agriculture, McPherson Nthala, says the Malawi Government is trying to restore and protect the country’s natural resources.

Nthala says this is being done in partnership with the Malawi Watershed Services Improvement Project (Mwasip), and other partners.

It followed observations by the chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Climate Change, Werani Chilenga, that the country is failing to manage forests and conserve land.

Chilenga disclosed this on Tuesday in Zomba during a meeting whose purpose was to appreciate interventions by MWASIP, a six year project whose primary focus is promoting sustainable land management.

In Zomba, the project is being implemented along the Shire River basin.
