Police in Nsanje District have arrested 27-year-old Lawrence Zanera for allegedly murdering a businessperson at Fatima Trade Centre in the district.
According to Nsanje Police Station spokesperson Agnes Zalakoma, the suspect is said to have stabbed the businessperson, Francis Kalenso, to death on December 15, 2023, at the Trade Centre and had been on the run since then.
The suspect went into Kalenso’s shop where he allegedly took one packet of surf valued at K500 without paying. The businessman confronted the suspect, who insisted he had already paid, and a conflict ensued, resulting in the stabbing.
Zanera, who hails from Gundani Village, Traditional Authority Mlolo in the district, will answer a murder charge.
