Residents around Mtengowaphako Primary School in Dedza District are calling for the construction of new classroom blocks after one block collapsed during the previous rainy season.
According to the school’s Deputy Headteacher, Kenneth Chisakasa, the school currently has only three blocks, which, going by education policy guidelines, are insufficient to accommodate the 814 learners.
Ward Councilor for Diampwi, Stainly Manase, has meanwhile pledged to construct one block using the Constituency Development Fund.
Group Village Headperson Chisera has welcomed the move by the councillor to help address the problem.
Mtengowaphako Primary School was established in 1998 as a junior school and became a full primary school in 2014.
