MRA seeks solutions to alleviate congestion, revenue loss

Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has acknowledged that the construction of the One Stop Border Post at Songwe has impacted traffic flow at the post, leading to congestion, a development that has affected revenue collection.

Commissioner General for MRA, John Bizwick, who visited the border post, says they are in the process of finding solutions to ease the problems.

He said Songwe Border Post is among the top Four important posts in the country some of them being Mwanza, Dedza and Mwami.

“We are aware that truck drivers are spending more time at this border to be processed to proceed and we are working on a solution to ease the challenges,” said Bizwick.

Resident Engineer for Gibb International, Msafiri Seboro, said they will transfer the parking lot to a new site where construction works of the new border post are in progress in order to reduce the congestion.
