Three people have died in Chikwawa after a lorry carrying 60 passengers, on its way from a football match, overturned.
The accident happened on Saturday at Nyaekha Trading Centre as the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle.
The deceased have been identified as Antio Isaac, 22, Brian Peterson, 29 and Chifundo Gelard, 22, all from Chapomoka Village in the area of Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa.
According to Dickson Matemba, Public Relations Officer for Chikwawa Police, the lorry, a Toyota was being driven by Joe Khrisimisi.
“Several passengers sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Ngabu Rural Hospital,” said Matemba.
Meanwhile, Police in the district have intensified efforts to arrest Khrisimisi, who is at large.
Matemba said that once caught, he will face charges of causing death by reckless driving under Section 126 of the Road Traffic Act.
