Mining firm pledges to uplift people’s livelihoods

Australian mining company, Lindian Resources Limited, says it is geared to improve livelihoods of people living around Kangankundi Hill in Senior Chief Chanthunya’s area in Balaka District.

Chief Executive Officer for the company, Awlyn Vorster, disclosed this on Friday when handing over over Chanthunya Police Unit, which the company has constructed at Kankawo in the area.

Vorster says Kangankundi Hill is rich in minerals used for magnet manufacturing, accessories for electric vehicles and wind turbines among other advanced modern technological equipment.

The company is set to begin mining of precious minerals at the hill early next year, after seven years of exploration works.

According to Volster, the construction of Chanthunya Police Unit is just one of their community support plans which include ending gender based violence, supporting education and uplifting sporting activities.

Eastern Region Police Commissioner, Babra Mchenga Tsika, received the police unit in the company of senior officials from the Ministry of Mining and Kankawo parishioners, who provided land and a house for the newly upgraded unit.
