Malawi National Football team, the Flames, have secured an impressive 3-1 win against Sao Tome & Principe at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, moving them to third place in Group H of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Flames now have 6 points, trailing leaders Tunisia (9 points) and Namibia (7 points).
Chawanangwa Kaaonga scored in the 6th minute, followed by Lanjesi Nkhoma in the 14th.
Sao Tome’s Denilson Cassandra da Silva scored a consolation goal in the 67th minute but Chifundo Mphasi sealed the win for Malawi with a goal in the 78th minute.
Next, the Flames will face Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday, June 10, 2024, in Malabo.
Liberia is fourth in the group with 4 points, followed by Equatorial Guinea without a point, just like Sao Tome which is at the very bottom.
