Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN) has appealed to all border districts in the country to ensure there is screening of mpox.
This comes as the Blantyre District Health Office, in collaboration with Chileka International Airport authorities, is conducting enhanced screening for Mpox for all travellers passing through the Airport.
MHEN Executive Director, George Jobe, said such an initiative will help assure Malawians that they cannot easily contract the virus, further noting that most mpox cases are from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is near Malawi.
Earlier, Dr. Gift Kawalazira, Director of Health and Social Services for Blantyre, confirmed that there is a patient at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre suspected to have contracted mpox and that they are still investigating the issue.
