The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has awarded certificates of compliance to standards and quality to some companies and businesses.
Speaking during the event in Blantyre, MBS Director General, Benard Thole, said the bureau has reduced Certification fees for small and medium enterprises by half to so that they can be competitive.
” Certification fees vary from company to company…this will act as a motivation especially to SMEs in the country to compete with foreign industries,” he said.
MBS also disclosed that out of 411 companies set to be certified this year, about 270 are new.
After certifying companies in the Southern Region, MBS will carry out the same exercise in the Central and Northern regions.
Some of the Companies certified include Satemwa Tea Estate — for food safety management system, Chibuku Products Limited, ShopRite fast foods and Bakery, among others.
