Minister of Energy, Ibrahim Matola, has distributed over 70 bags of 20 kilogramme maize flour to individuals who participated in the anti-vandalism efforts against ESCOM property at Mangochi Stadium.
Matola said that the gesture was part of the government’s hunger alleviation campaign, given the ongoing hunger crisis caused by the El Niño.
“I didn’t plan to do this, but after looking at the situation, it struck me that I needed to take action,” Matola said.
One of the beneficiaries, Shamida M’bwana, expressed delight with the surprise, saying she attended the ESCOM event solely for the anti-vandalism purposes.

“It’s my first time meeting the Minister and receiving a 20-kilogramme bag of maize flour from him is a generous gesture,” M’bwana commented.
Traditional Authority Mapira commended Matola for his compassionate gesture, noting that it would ensure people could have a meal on the day of Eid.
