Police in Mangochi have arrested Wisiki Kaunda, 42, for allegedly possessing three military handcuffs suspected to have been stolen from Mangochi Prison Services.
Kaunda is suspected to have committed the offence while serving a five-year sentence for burglary at Mangochi Prison.
Mangochi Police publicist, Amina Tepani Daudi, confirmed that Wisiki was arrested following a tip from community members.
“Officers raided Kaunda’s house, where they discovered three handcuffs hidden in a laptop bag and subsequently arrested him. During interrogation, Kaunda confessed to unlawfully obtaining the handcuffs from a storeroom at Mangochi Prison where he was assigned cleaning duties,” Daudi said.
He will appear in court to answer charges of unlawful possession of military equipment and theft.
