Malawi has vowed to play its part in the protection and conservation of wildlife within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
Minister of Tourism, Vera Kamtukule, made the commitment in Harare, Zimbabwe during a high-level ministerial meeting on Transfrontier Conservation Areas.
According to Kamtukule, Malawi, just like other countries, would step up efforts in the protection of natural resources including wildlife as they greatly contribute to the growth of the economy for the benefit of the people.
She therefore expressed hope that, with continued coordination and collaboration among countries within the SADC region, wildlife and other natural treasures will be highly protected as they move across the borders.
SADC Executive Secretary, Ellias Mpedi Magosi, stressed the need for Ministers from SADC to critically analyse agreements aimed at protecting wildlife before asking their respective Presidents to append their signatures.
