Malawi media hailed for playing key environmental role

Community organiser and climate justice campaigner, Seble Samuel, has commended the media in Malawi for playing a key role in advancing efforts to ban the production of thin plastics, which she sees as a positive step towards broader environmental goals.

Samuel made the remarks during an online engagement with the media where she stressed the importance of media in addressing such issues.

She emphasised that adopting the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative is essential for tackling global warming challenges, particularly in Africa. The treaty aims to promote a fair global shift to renewable energy sources.

Steven Dereck Chinsendenji, a Malawian Environmental Activist who is also Director of the Hope Givers Foundation, said he has led numerous campaigns across the country on a wide range of issues, including gender, climate change, waste management, and fossil fuels.
