LWB to resolve water challenges in 48 hours

Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) has anticipated resolving the current water challenges within the next 48 hours, starting from Monday, 16th December 2024, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

LWB Chief Executive Officer, Silli Mbewe, said this in Lilongwe during a media briefing aimed to share the current update on the water situation.

He said on 12 December 2024, LWB encountered an unexpected breakage in one of the main pipes which transports water to its reservoirs, resulting in a disruption to the water supply.

“The maintenance of the pipe finished at 6PM on Saturday 14 December 2024 but as we were recovering, then came another challenge of power outage at the northern booster station which supplies water to the entire Northern Zones supply area,” Silli said.

Silli also revealed that the water disruption affected approximately 30% of the population within the Lilongwe Water Board’s service area.

He has since assured residence in Lilongwe that it is expected to stabilise water supply in the next 48 hours all things being equal.
