MBC’s Development Broadcasting Unit (DBU) has rolled out Open Days to enhance adoption of clean energy solutions, with Lunzu residents in Blantyre pressing for increased access to low cost modern cooking stoves to conserve the environment.
The Popular Mobilisation and Public Awareness Campaign on Equitable Access to Clean Energy will see DBU and partners holding Open Days in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Salima, where proceedings will also be recorded for broadcast to nationally raise awareness for enhanced adoption of clean energy solutions.
“Unlike our traditional three stone fire spaces, these stoves use less firewood. They are highly energy efficient,” said Mayamiko Kafwamba, a DBU Projects Coordinator after missing out on buying one at the event.
The campaign is part of a project on Promoting Equitable Access to Clean Energy (PEACE) by an Oxfam led consortium comprising the Centre for Environmental Policy and Advocacy (CEPA), and the Civil Society Network on Climate Change (CISONECC), with funding from the European Union (EU).
