COSAFA nominates Tabitha as Women’s best player of the year

Tabitha Chawinga has been nominated as the Women’s Player of the Year in the COSAFA Awards.

Chawinga is the fourth Malawian player to get nominated at the awards after Mercy Sikelo, Rose Kadzere and Leticia Chinyamula in other categories.

In her category, Tabitha is contesting against Zambia’s duo, Rachel Kundananji and Barbara Banda.

The judging panel, made up of judges from across the Southern African region, will consider the players’ performances for both their clubs and national team.

The winner will be unveiled at a Gala Awards ceremony which will be held in Durban on 19 April, 2024.

In 2023, Chawinga signed a year-long loan deal with Italian side Inter Milan and was named the top scorer in Serie A with 23 goals, becoming the first African woman to be the highest-scoring player in that league.

In late 2023, she joined Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan deal from her parent club Wuhan Jiangda and has so far scored 17 goals from 18 appearances.
