Kaunda involved in motorcycle accident

Karonga United head coach, Oscar Kaunda, will not be on the touchline this afternoon as his side faces Ekhaya FC at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. This follows a motorcycle accident he was involved in on Tuesday evening.

The club’s Media Officer, Elick Elalio, confirmed the development, stating that Kaunda’s assistant, Chris ‘Crespo’ Chimkwita, will take charge of the team in his absence.

According to Elalio, the accident occurred near Lunzu in Blantyre and Kaunda was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.

Karonga head into the game after defeating Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos 4-0 at Dedza Stadium on Sunday, which propelled them to third place on the TNM Super League log table with 9 points.

Ekhaya are coming from a 1-0 defeat to Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa, making them rank 5th with 9 points also, but separated on goal difference.

In an earlier pre-match interview, Kaunda had expressed optimism about getting positive results.

“We are ready for this game and know that it will be a tough one,” He said. “We have talked to the players to fight from the first to the last whistle so that we can collect maximum points.”

Ekhaya’s Coach, Enos Chatama, said his team has been busy in training to improve in preparation of their opponents.

“If we polish up, we can be a better team, it is a process, and we do not need to pile more pressure from the boys,” Chatama said.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in the league.

Elsewhere this afternoon, Kamuzu Barracks faces Creck Sporting Club.
