Rumphi District Council has launched the construction of a K99 million two classroom block at Chirambo Primary School in Sub Traditional Authority Kawazawe.
Speaking during the launch on Tuesday, Council Chairperson, Harry Munyenyembe, urged the project management committee to closely monitor the initiative to ensure that agreed standards are not compromised.
Member of Parliament for the area, Yona Mkandawire, said the block will provide a conducive learning environment for pupils and improve performance.
He also advised the contractor to produce a structure of good quality worth the amount and warned that he would not tolerate substandard work.
On July 4, the council also launched the construction of a maternity centre at Mphompha Health Centre in the district worth K217 million.
The projects will be funded through Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD). GESD is a Malawi Government performance based grant which is funded by the World Bank.
