Japanese Embassy has signed a grant contract amounting to K242 million with two schools, Karonga CCAP Girls Secondary School and Ngwenya Primary School.
The contract signed allocates K160 million to Karonga CCAP Girls Secondary School for the construction of a laboratory and library block, while Ngwenya Primary School receives K82 million for the construction of four toilet blocks, a security fence and a guard house.
Ambassador of Japan to Malawi, Yoichi Oya, expressed Japan’s commitment to supporting Malawi’s education sector recognizing it as a key driver of development.
Headteachers from both schools expressed gratitude for the grant, highlighting the positive impact it will have on the quality of education and student performance.
Headteacher of Ngwenya Primary School, Esther Kadzakuwani, said the school’s lack of a fence has led to disruptions and safety concerns which she hopes will be addressed with the grand.
Headteacher of Karonga CCAP Girls Secondary School, Chimwemwe Mithi, said the grant will improve the quality of education, especially science subjects as the school didn’t have a laboratory.
The grant contract falls under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security project, which aims to respond to the diverse development needs in developing countries
