Ministry of Lands and the Ministry of Local Government have signed an implementing entity agreement with Millennium Challenge Cooperation (MCA) to kick-start the increased Land Productivity Project.
MCA Compact 2 Chief Executive Officer,Dye Mawindo, said the $44 million project will digitalise the land sector to improve revenue collection in country’s cities.
Mawindo said the project will commence next Monday, 20 January.
Secretary for the Lands Ministry, Davie Chilonga, indicated that the investment in the land sector will transform their ministry’s operations and minimise challenges that cause inefficiencies.
Secretary for the Local Government Ministry, Richard Hara, highlighted the importance of investing in land issues saying the project will aid decentralisation processes in land management that concerns city councils.
The Millennium Challenge Account Malawi compact 2 has a land component that aims at modernising the land based revenue systems in the country.
This is part of the $350 million Transport and Land Compact that Malawi signed with the American Government in May 2024.
