The United States of America has pledged to continue rendering humanitarian support to the Government of Malawi.
The commitment comes after President Chakwera recently declared a State of Disaster in 23 districts due to drought and floods caused by the El Niño phenomenon.
A statement from the US Embassy to Malawi indicates that the assistance will be provided through the U.S. Agency for International Development and other U.S. agencies.
They will deliver essential supplies and address the immediate needs of affected communities.
Former president Dr Joyce Banda recently also urged Malawians to heed Chakwera’s declaration and encouraged well-wishers to assist the government in supporting communities facing food shortages.
Governance and human rights expert, Undule Mwakasungula, said that the Malawi leader’s step to declare the disaster reflects a proactive approach by the government.
