As the country mourns a revered figure in Malawi’s music industry, Lucius Banda, people around Balaka town have described the fallen musician as a strong and patriotic son that the district has ever produced.
On Monday, Malawi News Agency observed a somber atmosphere in the town of Balaka, where most locals played his music, with some singing along.
“He was humble, and we loved him as through him we saw a lot of more musicians growing in Balaka, you cannot talk of the development of the music industry in Balaka, without mentioning his name,” said Moses Phekani, a businessman in Balaka.
Wisdom Shaibu who said he interacted with the late Banda on various occasions, pointed out that, “he was one of the very first business tycoons of the district as he also contributed to the growth of the Balaka town as he owned Zembani lodge, which used to accommodate prominent people when they come.”
The late Banda released 20 albums in his illustrious career.
