The Ministry of Education in Malawi has received control of the ‘Unlocking Talent’ project from the Republic of Germany which is set to roll out nationwide.
The initiative, which is part of the Building Education Foundations Through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) programme, is a form of learning that enables those in primary school to use iPads in numeracy and literacy courses.
Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, the Minister of Education, emphasised government’s commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the programme.
According to the minister, the initiative aims to promote inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education throughout the country.
The Ambassador of Germany to Malawi, Ute Konig, said educational challenges that the country is facing require innovative ways such as computer learning.
Since its inception in 2013, the Unlocking Project has already benefited over 217,000 early-grade learners in more than 300 schools across 15 districts in the country, according to the Ministry of Education.
