First Lady applauds Plan International for empowering girls

First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera has praised Plan International for its ongoing support towards the ‘Shaping Our Future Foundation’, particularly in girls’ education.

Madam Chakwera made the remarks when she held an audience with Plan International Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer, Kathleen Sherwin, on the sideline meetings of the UN General Assembly in New York, USA.

“I am particularly grateful for the collaboration in providing secondary School bursaries through my foundation,” said Chakwera.

The First Lady disclosed that out of 47 students from the foundation — who passed the Malawi School Certificate of Education, 25 have been selected to various public universities in Malawi representing a 53 percent transition rate.

Plan International Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer, Kathleen Sherwin said Global Girls Foundation is a new initiative of Plan International focused on bringing global leaders, philanthropists and girls to look at large-scale girl initiatives in leadership.

The Shaping Our Future Foundation, founded by Madame Chakwera, is dedicated to transforming the lives of girls through educational bursaries.
