The Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda, has called on Malawians to remain optimistic on the fate of the local economy, pointing out that the past three months have proven that the country’s economy is heading towards recovery.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament in Lilongwe after presenting the 2024 2025 National Budget, Banda said unsustainable debt continues to put pressure on the government’s financial obligations.
He however stressed that through plausibe debt management, debt restructuring and negotiations, the government has managed to set the country’s economy on track.
“In three months we have managed to turn around things, resulting in six indicators of achievement in economic transformation,” said Chithyola Banda.
Meanwhile, members of Parliament will be divided into 10 clusters to discuss the budget in 10 days.
