Technical, Entrepreneurial, and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) has graduated 56 youth in Chitipa that have undergone a 6 months skills training in Welding and Fabrication and Tailoring and Fashion Design.
Under the Informal Apprenticeship Programme, through Community Skills Development Centres, the training was designed to meet local needs, focusing on self-employment and economic empowerment.
TEVETA Board Chairperson, Gilbert Chilinde, said the programme is in line with the Malawi Government development vision in promoting skills development as a driver of employment creation, productivity and poverty reduction.
Chilinde has further called on local artisans to produce high quality products that can compete on the international market.
Out of the 56 graduands, 41 females and 1 male, have undergone tailoring and fashion design while 12, two of them females, have obtained skills and knowledge in welding and fabrication at Khama Skills Development Centre in collaboration with Thembi Community Initiative.
The programme is coordinated by the TEVETA Regional Service Centre in the Northern Region.
The graduates have been given start up capital.
