Farmers in Chikwawa and Nsanje Districts have been encouraged to grow local varieties of seeds which are resilient in the face of climate change.
Agriculture experts and scientists made the call during this year’s crop and seed diversity fair in Chikwawa.
One of the farmers, Samson Beyard of Kambadwe Cooperative, said local varieties of seeds such as watermelon and millet have proved to be highly nutritious.
The fair has been held under the theme ‘Enhancing conservation cultivation and commercialisation of neglected high value and adapted crop genetic resources for food nutrition and income resilience.’
