Health experts and a labour specialist say the Malawi-Israel health labour agreement is expected to address critical gaps in both health and labour sectors in the country.
In an interview with MBC Digital barely a few days after the two countries signed the health workers labour deal, National Organization of Nurses and Midwives President, Shouts Simeza, said the deal will help to strengthen healthcare systems.
“Among other things, the agreement will also help to facilitate the exchange of skilled health workers while improving employment conditions and healthcare delivery,” added Simeza.
National Community Health Ambassador, Maziko Matemba, said the bilateral agreement will help to fill immediate gaps and encourage long-term investments in training and professional development of the Malawian health workers.
Labour specialist Robert Mkwezalamba said by formalising labour mobility, Malawi is expected to prevent exploitation and ensure mutual benefits between the two countries.
Mkwezalamba therefore urged health workers expected to go to Israel to ensure that they adhere to the terms and conditions of the deal.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honorable Nancy Tembo and Israeli Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sharren Haskel, signed the agreement on behalf of the two governments in Lilongwe on Monday this week.
